PodFAQs
If you have a question that is not answered below, contact me.
Q: So what is a Podcast exactly?
A: A podcast is a media file (in this case .mp3) that is distributed over the internet via RSS feed. Podcatchers [like itunes] check the RSS feeds you subscribe to and automatically download new content that you can playback on your computer or your mobile device [such as an ipod.]
Q: You just said subscribe, how much is this going to cost me?
A: Its totally 100% FREE! “Subscribe” in podcasting lingo only means that you have told your podcatcher to automatically grab new content from a feed. While it does cost money to subscribe to some podcasts, the DanceCast is totally free. You will never be charged a dime.
Q: What the heck is an RSS feed?
A: An RSS feed is a web page that contains all of the episodes of a podcast. This web page feeds information to your podcatcher. It tells your podcatcher when new episodes are available and that it should download them.
Q: So what is a podcatcher?
A: A podcatcher, or aggregator as it is sometimes called, is a piece of software used to subscribe and download content from an RSS feed to your computer or mobile device [e.g. iPod.] iTunes, one of the most popular podcatchers out there, can be downloaded for free here.
Q: Ok, I downloaded iTunes, now what?
A: Click here! iTunes will open and bring you to a window that displays the DanceCast. Under the title and directly to the right is a “subscribe” button. Click it and you are now subscribed to the Electronic DanceCast. iTunes is pretty user friendly, I’m sure you’ll do fine.
Q: How can I get the DanceCast on my iPod?
A: Click here to subscribe with iTunes. Once you have subscribed to the DanceCast and downloaded backed episodes, hook your iPod up to your computer like normal and DanceCast episodes will automatically be transfered to your iPod.
Q: I can’t find the DanceCast on my iPod?
A: Podcasts are kept in your regular music section. Go to music > Podcasts and then you should see “The Electronic DanceCast”. Don’t feel bad, I once got a call from a friend who subscribed to the DanceCast and didn’t find it on his iPod until 6 months later.
Q: I don’t have an iPod, can I still listen?
A: Absolutely. iTunes is free and will allow you to listen to them right on your computer, or you can put episodes on any mp3 player.
